KAREN HOVLANDHovland.jpg (4603 bytes) Continues to work (2007) for Gallegos and Associates in Carlsbad as field archaeologist and lab assistant. She took the new Historical Anthropology class at Palomar in the Fall of 2006.  She worked for Chambers Group (Summer 1999), Tierra Environmental Services and Affinis (Winter 2000), and Professional Archaeological Services (1998- 1999). Served as Teaching Assistant for Palomar Excavation Class (Fall 1999).

Fiona and Finn

Laurie has wrapped up her graduate work in Education at William and Mary.  She continues to teach and was Assistant Principal in the summer and is currently Department Chair at her school.  She continues her archaeology at Jamestowne Island, and she started an Anthro Club and 10 students excavated at Fairfield Plantation. Her children Fiona and Finn turned six and four this past year!  Laurie had the fantastic opportunity to excavate at the probable Indian village of Powhatan on Gloucester Farm in 2003.  She works as a 9th grade World History teacher in Yorktown, VirginiaShe has served as volunteer lab assistant and field archaeologist for the 17th century Fairfield Plantation.(http://fsweb.wm.edu/fairfield/) in Gloucester.  She has also worked with archaeologists from Fairfield and Colonial Williamsburg to create a collaborative Teacher's Institute for local teachers to learn about historical archaeology in Colonial Virginia.  Worked part-time at Jamestown Settlement Museum (www.historyisfun.org) as an historic interpreter in the Powhatan Indian Village.   Worked as lab assistant for Palomar Program and field archaeologist for Professional Archaeological Services (1996-1999).

Professor Kerckhove teaches philosophy but archaeology is his avocation. He was just selected as Interim Dean of Media, Business, and Community Services.   He has a Certificate in Survey and Lab Analysis and has virtually completed his Excavation Certificate.   He has also assisted Dr. de Barros with the Palomar Field School.
JEANIE JONESjjones.jpg (7260 bytes) Worked for KEA Environmental in Mojave Desert.  Did survey and excavation at prehistoric and historic archaeological sites for Professional Archaeological Services (Summer 2000 and 2001).   Completed internship with Cal State Parks at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.  Served as intern with Tierra Environmental Services, Fall 2000.

Nathanial Walker Loftus

Shannon is moving back to California later this year and should have her M.A. in Historic Preservation finished in November 2007.  She will be working for Archaeo Paleo Resource Management in Los Angeles as their historic archaeologist and architectural historian. She will eventually become project manager and P.I. They will probably move to Idyllwild.  Her son is now 2 years old (see picture).

Worked full-time at Edwards Air Force Base as an archaeologist and worked as Cultural Resources Intern at Vandenberg AFB for two years.  Completed B.A.  Trained as paleontological monitor.  Worked for Chambers Group as Field Archaeologist and Monitor.  Served as coordinator of field monitors for a large fiber optics program.  Worked for Professional Archaeological Services at ORA-1582H and ORA-149, Summer 2001.

AI IKEDAwpe22.jpg (3374 bytes) Obtained Certificates in Excavation and Surveying and Lab Analysis from Palomar College.  Doing internship at the San Diego Archaeological Center (SDAC), Spring 2001. Did internship via Independent Study at the SDAC, Fall 2000.  She has focused on collections processing and exhibits.

GREG VAN'T LANDgregv.jpg (9801 bytes) Served as Teaching Assistant for Palomar's excavation class; attending San Diego State University; Teaching Assistant for Palomar Excavation Class (Fall 1999 and Fall 2000) and Survey Class (Spring 2000).  Did excellent study of Indian bows for San Diego Museum of Man.
MICHAEL GARNSEY Mike served as a Teaching Assistant for the Fall 2005 field class in Poway at SDI-15547.  He also works full-time for ASM Affiliates in Encinitas.  Mike has graduated from UCSD with a B.A. in Anthropology (focus archaeology) and a minor in music. Mike participated in a field school at San Elijo Lagoon in 2002He also interned at ASM in Encinitas where he does lab work and basic lithic analyses for 4  of the San Elijo Lagoon sites.  He also took a flintknapping class.  He plans to apply for the PhD program in archaeology at UCSD.  He surveyed for Professional Archaeological Services, Fall 2000.
ED BOWENedbowen.jpg (7508 bytes) Used total station skills learned in ANTH 220 to help map SDI-913 at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park for the Cal State Parks, Summer 2001.  Served as Lab Assistant at Palomar (Fall 1999 and Spring 2000). Helped do total station mapping of SDI-5581 and sites at Cuyamaca State Park.
GAIL WRIGHTgwright.jpg (10994 bytes) Gail works as an Associate Archaeologist for the Department of Planning and Land Use for the County of San Diego.  She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Archaeology/nthropology at SDSU & has  completed her M.A. at SDSU.  She has also worked with San Diego County Historic Sites Board as an archaeologist. Served as Teaching Assistant for Palomar's Excavation Class (1997-1998) and the Survey Class at Cuyamaca (Spring 2000). Served as Field Assistant for Palomar Archaeological Surveying Class, Spring 2002.
JOLENE MAGESJoleneMages2.jpg (13971 bytes) Graduated from Louisiana State University in forensic anthropology in December 2000. Recently worked for KEA Environmental at Camp Pendleton.  Now working as an investigator.

MARIE MAKAMUL Will be finishing her B.A. in Anthropology at the University of Maryland at College Park. Plans to go to Johns Hopkins University to focus on Near Eastern Studies (Egyptology). Served as Lab Assistant at Palomar Spring 2000 for the Palomar College Program.
ANDREW LOWNLown.jpg (6678 bytes) Andrew is currently working for CRM firms in southern California.  Andrew also took classes at Humboldt State in 2002-2003.  Worked for KEA Environmental at Camp Pendleton.   Worked for Chambers Group in Costa Mesa as Field Archaeologist and Monitor, 1999-2000; worked for Tierra Environmental Services and   Professional Archaeological Services  (1998-1999, 2001, 2003)
JESSICA BECKETTJessica2.jpg (6670 bytes) Jessica has completed her Ph.D. in Archaeology at Cambridge University in England (2005), where she studied Neolithic Burial Rites in Ireland.  She is now teaching Osteoarchaeology at both Leicester University and at Cambridge.  Graduated Summa Cum Laude in Anthropology at San Diego State University; Anthropology Student of the Year; worked for Professional Archaeological Services (Fall 1998)

Fall 2007 sees Nicole at UCSD majoring in Anthropology/Archaeology.  She is very glad for her training and experience at Palomar College.  She first started the program in 1996 at SDI-15547 in Poway.  She also served as intern with ASM Affiliates of Encinitas & at Tierra Environmental Services (Spring 2000).  She also did excavations at ORA-149 for Professional Archaeological Services (Summer 2001) in Huntington Beach. In 2006, Nicole came back to Palomar to complete her A.A. Degree in Archaeology taking Advanced Archaeological Surveying (ANTH 220) in Spring 2006. 
JEREMY MENDENHALLjeremyme.jpg (8294 bytes) Jeremy just completed his studies at Grove City College in Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Philosophy.  He hopes to take the Advanced Archaeological Survey Class in Spring 2004.  Jeremy is only 1-2 classes away from completing the Excavation and Lab/Survey Certificates.  Jeremy worked for Professional Archaeological Services (Spring 2000).
CHRIS VEDBORGVedborg.jpg (6024 bytes) Chris recently visited the Poway Site in the Fall of 2005 as part of a joint program with the BLM for teacher training in archaeology. Worked for Professional Archaeological Services (Fall 1998).  He excavated at the Poway Site in 1998.
