Hello Dr. D,
It's been a few
years now since I attended your excavation class in Poway,
the fall semester of 1999. You may remember me as the really dedicated
student who drove down from Santa
Monica every weekend just for the class. I have
to say that it was one of the most giving excavations I've attended.
Since then I have been studying at Uppsala
University in Sweden and now
I'm working on a Master's in classical archaeology and also a Bachelor degree
in Nordic archaeology. Through scholarships I have been given the
opportunity to take part in a survey project (IKAP) in Pylos, Greece,
in a project in Pompeii,
Italy, and
excavations at a Bronze Age/Medieval site not far from where I live.
I have some
questions I hope you can answer. For my Bachelor thesis I'm looking into
Hunter/Gatherer moose hunting traps in northern Scandinavia.
In Sweden there are many
hunting traps in what you can call pit systems and I wanted to see if you are
aware of similar systems in North America, maybe even in the south western part
of United States.
I really want to take in some kind of ethnographic material as well as compare
traditions and techniques with other hunting groups.
I appreciate all
information you can give me. If you see Chris Henley some time tell him I said hi (but it has been about 10 yeas now
so he might not remember me).
Best wishes,
Maria Wiseman
