GUEST SPEAKER DR. SETH MALLIOS

Spoke on His Research at Jamestown, Nate Harrison's Homestead on Palomar Mountain,
and the San Diego County Gravestone Project

Dr. Mallios, Professor of Historical Archaeology at San Diego State University, spoke to the students about his research at Jamestown and some neighboring settlements, including that of the orphan Buck family children.  He also spoke about his historical archaeological research about the pioneering black man, Nate Harrison, and his homestead up on Palomar Mountain.  Finally, he spoke on his exciting San Diego Gravestone Project which has sought to collect gravestone data from every cemetery in the county in order to study trends in gravestone size, materials, symbols and style, and text.  The students enjoyed his talk very much.  Dr. Mallios also discussed the goals of historical archaeology.
