"Beginner’s Approach to Growing Palms & Cycads in Southern California" with David Minks and Tony Rangel
Room: NS-139 and a walk in the Arboretum & around the campus
This talk will cover the many aspects of cultivating Palms and Cycads. We will be touching on topics such as growing Palms and Cycads from seed, to diseases and general care and trimming techniques. We also will discuss the differences between the two types of plants and their varied uses in the landscape.  After the lecture we will take a 1hr walk around the campus and visit the Arboretum, viewing the many types of Palms and Cycads in the collection at Palomar.

"Arboretum Beautification Day"
Meet at the Patron’s Pavilion in the Arboretum
Arboretum entrance on Comet Circle is located across the street from the NS Building.
Please park in Parking Lot 5. (free parking for attendees for this clean up day only)
Please bring your rake, shovel, gloves, sunscreen and a hat.
(Other equipment will be provided)
Coffee and Donuts to start the morning.
A BBQ lunch will be served at NOON in the Patron's Pavilion.
Water will be provided throughout the work areas.

BBQ lunch.

The coastal sage scrub is a unique wildlife habitat in southern California composed of many species of plants and animals. Although it once covered vast areas of coastal San Diego County, it has been greatly reduced to small, isolated areas, primarily due to extensive urbanization during the past three decades. It is quite distinct from chaparral, and is now considered an endangered plant community.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Please park in Parking Lot 5. (free parking for attendees)
There will be a lecture in room NS-139 followed by a walk into the Coastal Sage Scrub adjacent to the Palomar College Arboretum.
Please bring a bottle of water and wear comfortable walking shoes. Sunscreen, sunglasses, snack and a hat is also recommended.
