Volunteers gathered to
start the morning with coffee and donuts at the
Arboretum on Comet Circle, north of the Library.
A BBQ sausage lunch was organized and prepared at noon
by Professor Russ Filbeck. This was Russ' last Arboretum BBQ. He
will be
retiring at the end of the semester. Thank you to Russ
for his
many years of supporting the Arboretum!! We wish him
well in his next endeavors.
An estimated 110 volunteers attended the
Beautification Day event. A special thank you to
Professors Beth Pearson, Kathleen MacLeod, Russ Filbeck
and their students from Palomar College. It was great to
see so many students,
faculty, staff and community members
attending our Beautification Day event. This was our
best turn-out of volunteers!
A big thank you to Yesenia
Vigil, a San Marcos High School Lend Tutor/Palomar
College GEAR-UP employee. Yesenia and 25 SMHS students
worked very hard for 6 long hours! They stayed to the
very end of the work day. They were very impressive
volunteers. Hats off to Yesenia and the SMHS student
volunteers!
Thank you President Bob Deegan for
supporting and attending our event.
We really do appreciate your support and interest in our
beautiful Arboretum.
The Cactus and Succulent Garden was
open from
10:00 a.m. -
2:00 p.m. Thank you to Dick Henderson and friends
for greeting
and informing visitors about the Cactus and Succulent
Garden. See a short slide show of the Palomar Cactus and
Succulent Society group. They awarded a lifetime
membership to Dick Henderson for his ten year + devotion
to the garden. Dick also lead an "Edibles in the Garden"
Tour.

Thank you to Home Depot of San Marcos
(store #6656) for donating 20
pairs of work gloves. The gloves saved many volunteer
hands from blisters and cuts. :-) |
