The African American Scholarship Committee

Who We Are:
The African American Scholarship Committee is an ethnically diverse professional group of College, community, and corporate volunteers, operating under the auspices of the Palomar College 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation.
All funds raised will be held in trust to be used for Palomar College scholarships for African American students, per established guidelines.
The African American Scholarship Committee of Palomar College was formed to support Palomar College African American students and graduates.

What We Do And Why:
Our mission is to raise funds and provide tangible support for adult and young adult students of African American descent.
African American students have historically lacked equal access to scholarships and educational assistance. Today, most students need moral and financial assistance to reach their educational and career goals. Many students are supporting families or receive little or no financial support from their own families. Required expenses such as transportation, tuition, fees, books, supplies, housing, and food are increasing annually. Most students cannot attend college full-time without working or receiving family financial support or scholarships, grants, loans, and general assistance. These factors put the cost of higher education beyond the means of most qualified African American students.
Students who become recipients of a Palomar College African American scholarship will also receive mentoring from a committee member or community volunteer. Recipients will be encouraged to donate some of their time and future resources toward mentoring other African American students and raising funds for future scholarships.

We Need Your Support!

We appreciate, need, and welcome any donation of financial support, time, talent, and gifts.

Community members who wish to serve as mentors to the Palomar College African American scholarship recipients, or as members of an African American scholarship committee task force, are invited to join.
