Information/Discussion
Discussions focused primarily on the taped session of our first Vision Round Table Meeting, held Tuesday April 20, 2010; as well as goal setting. To see the video of the RoundTable meeting, click on this link:

Round Table:
What did we like?
Carol liked the real world industry perspective of the meeting as well as the different perspectives given.
Jackie and Mary felt that it helped orient our Business Department re: future directions.
All commented that the speakers did most of the talking, there was good synergy, and essentially we made a big step towards creating a culture where we can reach out to industry.
It was felt that the industry guests felt comfortable, and presented their most pressing issues and concerns regarding preparing community college students for real-world jobs and skills.
What could have we done differently or what shall we do in the future?
Suggestions were made to have Palomar's Communications Office contact the North County Times, to create a Press Release; Jackie suggested including a link to the taped session on the Business Department website, as well as including it in an e-mail thank you to participants.
Also, all Business Dept. members will be invited to the Round Table meetings in the future, and minutes will be kept of meetings from this point forward.
Goals:
Two overarching goals would be to:
Create a brand or identity that employers would associate with the Business Department at Palomar College as a pool for potential employees. Because they know us, they will search for us. Carol suggested following job boards to find employers who might be looking for Business candidates, and inviting these business members to our Round Table meetings.
Differentiate ourselves from the state colleges by broadcasting in various formats that we are different because we do infuse, to a great degree, hands-on applications in our classrooms.
This led to a discussion of the need for internships and close ties to our local North County employers.
Jackie suggested creating work groups tied to Program Review that would occur with our industry partners at the Round Table meetings.
This was our last meeting of the year. The time of continued meetings for the next academic year is to be determined. Possible time is Wednesday is 2:00 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 3:45 pm.
Respectfully submitted by,
Jackie Martin-Klement
