INSTITUTIONAL LEVEL INFORMATION COMPETENCY AND COMPUTER LITERACY OUTCOMES
 
The following Information Competency Student Learning Outcomes are relevant to all disciplines and they were developed and endorsed by CCC Academic Senate.  These SLOs also address the need for Computer Literacy skills.
 

"Whereas, The Academic Senate adopted the paper entitled Information Competency in the California Community Colleges that formulated the definition of information competency, which includes the following skills: http://www.topsy.org/resolution.html

  • State a research question, problem, or issue.
  • Determine information requirements in various disciplines for the research questions, problems, or issues.
  • Use information technology tools to locate and retrieve relevant information.
  • Communicate using a variety of information technologies.
  • Understand the ethical and legal issues surrounding information and information technologies.
  • Apply the skills gained in information competency to enable lifelong learning."

Even though these SLOs were developed and approved by the Academic Senate in 2001, in 2006, the Statewide Academic Senate of the California Community Colleges Reaffirmed the Need for Information Competency in this resolution - Fall 2006 Resolution 9.03
