How can I find out the status of the position I applied
for?
The hiring process for every position at Palomar College
differs in how long it takes before the Selection
Committee reaches a decision about who they would like to
interview or hire. Therefore, it is difficult for us to
determine where a candidate's particular application stands in the
process.
At the time that Employment Services
schedules interviews,
we call or email all candidates who
are selected for interviews, and send letters via postal
service to candidates who have not been chosen.

When will you contact me
regarding the position I applied for?
Since all recruitments at Palomar College differ in the
amount of time taken to arrive at the interview and hiring
phases of the process, we are unable to give you an exact
answer as to when you may receive notification.
If you
provide your email address on your application, we will
send an email to you within 2-4 weeks after the position
close date for classified positions, administrator, and
Child Development Center teacher positions or 2-8 weeks for
full-time faculty positions to confirm
receipt of your application. In most cases, we begin
scheduling interviews 2-8 weeks after the position close
date for classified, administrative, and Child Development
Center positions and 4-10 weeks for
administrator and full-time faculty positions, and you can
expect to receive notification about your application's
status at that time.
We call or email all candidates who
are selected for interviews, and send letters via postal
service to all candidates who have not been selected for
interviews. If it has been more than two months since
the position for which you applied has closed, you may
contact Employment Services to learn the status of the
recruitment at
palomarjobs@palomar.edu.
Please note: Palomar College is unable
to accept general applications that do not list a specific,
open position, and we cannot accept resumes alone as
application for permanent employment. If you have
tried to apply for employment by either of those methods,
you will not receive a response as those types of
applications cannot be considered.

Can I find out more about a position by calling
the department the position is in?
Palomar College is committed to ensuring that every hiring
process is fair and consistent for all applicants.
Selection Committee members are instructed to forward
candidates' questions that they may receive to Employment
Services in order to maintain impartiality throughout the
process. We therefore discourage candidates from
speaking directly to Selection Committee members or
individuals in the department in which the position is
located.
Most, if not all, of the
questions that applicants have about the position and
employment procedures may be answered by careful review of
the position announcement and application materials. You
may also visit the department website if available to learn
more about the department. If, after reviewing those
items, you find that you still have questions or concerns,
please contact Employment Services at
palomarjobs@palomar.edu. We will then contact the
appropriate individual(s) with your inquiry on your behalf
and forward the response we receive to you.

Why is a position being advertised as "reopened"
or "search extended?" Do I have to apply again?
Palomar College reserves the right to reopen or extend a recruitment
if we did not receive enough applications during the initial
recruitment to conduct interviews. We may also reopen a position in order to
enhance the depth of the overall qualifications of the
applicant pool. In some circumstances, a
hiring committee may be unable to fill a position after
conducting interviews, and we then may reopen the position
to attract an entirely new applicant pool.
If
we are reopening or extending the recruitment for a position
in order to obtain a larger and more qualified applicant
pool and you applied during the initial recruitment, in
most cases, you need not submit a new application.
Employment Services will send a letter to you indicating
receipt of your application and whether or not any
additional information is required from you.
If
we are reopening the position after going through all stages
of a recruitment and were unable to fill the position after
interviewing, you will be required to submit a new
application. Employment Services will send letters to
candidates not selected for interviews at the time that
interviews are scheduled to indicate that the committee has
selected others for interviews. Candidates who interviewed for the
position will receive letters stating that the position will
not be filled at the time but that they are welcome to apply
again if the position reopens.

Can Palomar College pay or reimburse me for
application and/or interview expenses?
We
regret that as a non-profit educational institution, we are
unable to reimburse applicants for expenses incurred during
the application and/or interview process. For full-time
faculty and some administrator positions, however, we
typically conduct two levels of interviews, and are usually
able to reimburse those candidates who live 150 miles or
more from the College for some travel expenses incurred during
the interview process. If you have further questions
regarding reimbursement of interview expenses, please
contact us by sending an email to
palomarjobs@palomar.edu.

Can
I interview via telephone or videoconferencing?
To ensure fairness and consistency for all interviewees, and
due to the nature of our hiring process, Palomar College
only conducts interviews in person on our campus. We
are unable to interview candidates by telephone or
videoconferencing. If you are invited to an interview, you
will be required to come to Palomar College for your
interview.
